TALENT

Just as physical exercise is needed, so is mental exercise and COTA is a strong advocate of community based learning programs for third agers. TALENT – Third Age Learning Network of Tasmania – is COTA’s initiative in networking providers such as Schools for Seniors and Universities of the Third Age.

TALENT was formed in 2002 to coordinate and promote the work of community based learning providers, primarily Universities of the Third Age (U3As) and Schools for Seniors. The TALENT works closely with the Department of Education and Training and has been a contributor to the Adult and Community Education policy.

Four community forums have been held at which the problems and opportunities facing Third Age learning providers have been discussed. The outcome of these forums has been published in an issues paper entitled Third Age Learning - A Key Element In Positive Ageing Policy.

TALENT has produced a Resource Kit to assist community organisations wishing to set up their own learning group. Click here to view. "Learning" is a broad term that covers every kind of cultural activity including craft, the performing arts, study programs, and dance - the activities so necessary for the continuing health and wellbeing of older people.

A listing of these groups is available on the ADCIS Directory at: www.adcis.org.au

Below is a listing of the University of The Third Age groups within southern Tasmania.
